Year 6 spent a wonderful autumn afternoon out and about on the school field hunting for invertebrates. We had a good idea about what we might find and where we should look but some of our discoveries still surprised and amused us. Our main findings were worms, snails, slugs, centipedes and spiders. With only one sighting of a ladybird, the insects were much harder to find; this made us think about how the seasons affect the invertebrates we can find on our school field.

After an exciting hunt, what better way to spend the afternoon than testing out Miss Morton’s new Forest School skills! The storm kettle bubbled away to make a well-deserved cup of hot chocolate, whilst marshmallows were roasted over a camp fire.
